Number of insurance claims payments in Norway 2020, by type

The most common type of non-life insurance claims paid out in Norway in 2019 was for motor vehicles, with 905,544 the claims paid out for private property claims, which was the second most common type. Also, in terms of value, claims paid for motor vehicles were the highest. In fact, in 2020, claims paid for private motor vehicles amounted to over 11.7 billion Norwegian kroner, while claims for commercial motor vehicles reached nearly 3.8 billion Norwegian kroner.

Insurance premiums written

   Motor vehicle insurance was also the most common insurance type for written premiums in Norway in 2020. That year, motor vehicle insurance accounted for more than one third of all non-life insurance premiums written in Norway. The second most common premium category was property and movable property, which accounted for around one third of the total number of premiums written for non-life insurance.  

Car insurance frauds

   Private cars and vans were also the most common type of insurance frauds detected in Norway in 2020. They composed more than one third of the all the private non-life insurance frauds that year, with the most common type of car fraud in Norway being exploitation of actual loss.
