Between 2008 and 2017, in flight control loss was the most frquent cause of a fatal accident in commercial aviation, with 1,129 onboard fatalities. From 2013 to 2018, collision/crash incidents accounted for 57 percent of all aviation insurance claims by value, which was equivalent to 9.3 billion U.S. dollars.
