Gender distribution of youth not attending school in South Africa 2021

As of 2021, 20.2 percent of female and 25.9 percent of male South African learners aged 7 to 18 stated that illness and disability were the main reason for not attending educational institutions. The rate of learners not attending educational institutions due to family commitments was significantly higher among females at 13.4 percent than among males at 0.5 percent.
