In 2019, warungs were the most preferred purchasing channels by Indonesians at 24 percent followed, by minimarkets at 23 percent. Street hawkers were the least preferred at three percent. According to the survey, respondents preferred modern trade channels over traditional ones overall. However, warungs may still be popular amongst those in residential areas as they are better able to cater to localized demand.
