Labor force participation rate in South Africa 2019-2023, by age group
In the second quarter of 2023, the labor force participation rate peaked among South Africans aged 35 to 44, reaching 78.8 percent. Compared to the same quarter in 2022, there was a year-on-year change of 1.1 percent. Among the population between 45 and 54 years old, the participation in the labor market of South Africa was 73.8 percent, close to the 72.9 percent rate recorded for young South Africans (25 to 34 years).
