Labor force participation rate in South Africa 2019-2020, by age group

In the first quarter of 2020, the labor force participation rate peaked among South Africans aged 35 to 44 years old, reaching 80.5 percent. Comparing to the same quarter in 2019, there was a year-on-year change of 1.3 percent. Among the population between 45 and 54 years old, the participation in the labor market of South Africa was 75.4 percent, close to the 74.5 percent rate recorded amid young South Africans (25 to 34 years).
