Between 2010 and 2018, water bills across the United States have risen dramatically. Austin, Texas saw its average bills rise approximately 154 percent over the course of this period, with bills in 2018 amounting to 1,435 U.S. dollars. This cost increase has led to some 19 percent of the Austin population living in areas with unaffordable water bills. In comparison, nearly 50 percent of the population in Cleveland, Ohio live in similarly unaffordable areas. This city saw it's water bills increase by 102 percent between during the same period.
