Value of donations from the hometown tax system in Japan FY 2019, by municipality
In fiscal year 2019, the municipality Izumisano in Osaka prefecture received the highest amount of donations from the hometown tax system in Japan reaching 18.5 billion Japanese yen. Under the Japanese hometown tax system (furusato nōzei), residents of urban areas can make donations to municipalities in rural regions and receive tax deductions in return. In fiscal year 2019, the overall hometown tax revenue had declined to 487.5 billion Japanese yen.
