Japan: local government spending

In the 2020 fiscal year, the total expenditure of the prefectural and municipal governments in Japan amounted to around 125.5 trillion Japanese yen. The largest share of the Japanese local governments' budget were used to cover public welfare related expenses which revolves mainly around welfare facilities for people with special needs, children and elderly people.
