In the fiscal year 2021, the share of the population with access to wastewater treatment in Japanese cities with over one million people amounted to around 99.7 percent. Sewer lines made up the majority of wastewater treatment facilities that were used in Japan. In that fiscal year, the overall rate of people with access to sewage treatment facilities in Japan amounted to around 92.6 percent.
