Electric heat pumps are the most common heating source for new homes in Germany. In 2021, nearly 44 percent of newly approved residential buildings would have heat pumps installed. Meanwhile, oil has been slowly phased-out of new residential installations and will be banned wherever more environmentally friendly sources are available from 2026 onwards.
