Number of new residential construction in Canada 2016-2022, by province
New home construction in the Canadian province of Ontario amounted to over 83,480 units in 2022, which is much higher than the number of construction starts in Quebec. On a year-to-year basis, construction in both provinces has been increasing steadily in the last two years. Even despite the start of the pandemic, the number of construction starts increased in 2020 in every Canadian province except Newfoundland and Labrador, British Columbia, and Alberta. This has translated into an increase in housing construction in Canada as a whole.
