Investment in new residential real estate in Canada 2016-2021

After plateauing for several years, the value of investment in housing in Canada increased in 2021. From about 197 billion Canadian dollars in 2020, housing investment grew to almost 257 billion Canadian dollars in 2021. Most of investment activity was private housing investment. Social housing investments amounted to about 7.9 billion Canadian dollars, while social transfers in kind were 7.8 billion Canadian dollars.
