Morocco: economic cost of violence against women

As of 2019, 28.5 percent of the violated women in Morocco bore direct and indirect costs as a result of violations committed in their regard. In the 12 months preceding 2019, violent acts committed against women in the country accumulated a total cost of approximately 2.8 billion Moroccan dirhams (roughly 3.1 million U.S. dollars). Direct costs were the most borne by the abused women, reaching 2.3 billion Moroccan dirhams, around 2.6 million U.S. dollars. Furthermore, at the said date, expenses emanating from physical violence significantly outweighed that of sexual violence. Overall in Morocco, females between the ages of 15 and 19 years were the most violated in 2019.
