Financial response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Egypt 2020, by organization
In March 2020, the the Egyptian government provided 100 billion Egyptian pounds (6.37 billion U.S. dollars) as a stimulus package. Moreover, the IMF agreed to fund Egypt via the rapid financing instrument, with 2.8 billion U.S. dollars in early May. A month later, the IMF approved the request for a standby agreement put in by Egypt, and this provided access to an even higher 5.2 billion as a pandemic relief fund. Additionally, funds received from the World Bank in March 2020 amounted to 7.9 million U.S. dollars, further adding 50 million U.S. dollars in May of the same year.
