In the fiscal year 2021, Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) realized around 25.18 billion passenger-kilometers with its high-speed Shinkansen trains, increasing from roughly 18.2 billion in the preceding year. Per day, the Tokaido Shinkansen transported approximately 229 thousand passengers.
Today operated by Japan Railways Group companies, the Japanese bullet trains have been renowned worldwide for their reliability regarding speed, punctuality, and safety since the inauguration of the first Shinkansen in 1964.
