In the Nordic countries, Norway had the highest amount of net trade in goods and services until 2014. However, when Norwegian exports were hit by a fall of the oil price, its trade surplus sank dramatically, from 44 billion U.S. dollars in 2014 to only six billion in 2016. Net trade of the other four countries remained more consistent. In 2021, Norway again had the highest trade surplus at 58.6 billion U.S. dollars, followed by Sweden and Denmark. Iceland even had a negative trade balance that year.
