Israel: fertility rate

In 2021, the fertility rate in Israel slightly increased to 3 live births per woman. Since 2010, the rate has remained stable, with slight fluctuations. The fertility rate in the country is one of the highest among the developed states, and considerably above the  fertility rate in European countries , which usually stays below two. 

The Israeli population keeps growing

  The fertility rate is a prominent factor behind the constant  population growth in Israel , along with solid life expectancy. The average expectancy in Israel reached 82.8 years in 2019, one of the highest life expectancies in the world. Therefore, Israel has a unique situation where the fertility rate and life expectancy are high. Furthermore, the Israeli population is estimated to increase at least till 2026, and since the  crude birth rate in Israel in Israel is higher than the death rate, the pace of the population growth in Israel remains relatively high.

 Different fertility rates from district to district 

  While the total fertility rate in Israel has remained stable and at a relatively similar rate over the years, the   fertility rate in Israel's districts is inconsistent and varies according to the nature of the community. For instance, in 2020, Jerusalem District recorded a high fertility rate of 3.86, whereas in some districts the fertility rate stayed below 2.5. These differences occur because there are large religious communities in some areas of Israel, such as Jerusalem, where the birth rate generally tends to be higher.
