Investment in generation capacity in Africa 2020, by technology
As of 2020, investments in energy generation capacity in Africa reached some 16.6 billion U.S. dollars. In general, commitments to renewable sources predominated in Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa). For instance, nearly five billion U.S. dollars were invested in hydropower and solar PV combined, against 1.5 billion U.S. dollars investment in oil. In Northern Africa and South Africa, renewables absorbed roughly 50 percent of the total commitments.
