Primary energy consumption in South Korea increased slightly by 20 petajoules in 2021, when compared to the previous year. Oil was by far the most used energy source in the country, accounting for nearly 85 percent of the total primary energy consumption that year. This was followed by natural gas and coal. By comparison, renewable energies were the least used source.
