North America has had the highest per capita emissions from electricity generation for more than two decades. Although per capita emissions in North America have fallen by 35 percent since 2000, they averaged 4.48 metric tons of carbon dioxide per capita (tCO2/cap) in 2021.
Asia has the by far the largest power generation CO2 emissions worldwide, but its per capita emissions are considerably lower than in North America, at 1.73 tCO2/cap.
