Spain: consumers' preferred payment method for car purchase by type

Over three quarters of Spanish respondents to a February 2023 survey who bought a used car in the past twelve month paid cash for this purchase. In contrast, cash payments were not as popular among new car buyers: 38 percent of survey participants reported paying cash for their new car purchase, compared to 58 percent of new car buyers using financing options.

Nearly two million used passenger cars were sold in Spain in 2021, compared to around 859,500 new cars across the same year.
