Supplementary notes

The source adds: MAP's Equality Maps track over 50 LGBTQ-related state laws and policies .These laws are grouped into seven major categories: relationship and parental recognition; nondiscrimination; religious exemptions; LGBTQ youth; health care; criminal justice; and identity documents. These policies are scored across all 50 states , Washington DC, and the five U.S. territories, and these individual policy scores are then added together to create the Overall LGBTQ Policy Tally score. This Overall Tally helps illustrate a big picture view of the broader LGBTQ policy landscape across the country. Scores and maps are maintained in real-time, so the scores available on our website may change on any given day as laws themselves change.
