Global passenger demand for intercity and international travel by train is projected to grow nearly five-fold between 2022 and 2050, growing from around 1,310 billion passenger kilometers to 6,640 billion passenger kilometers. The majority of this growth is expected in East and Northeast Asia, where passenger demand is expected to rise by more than 600 percent in the same period.
