Share of beliefs about the symptoms of cancer Nigeria 2023
As of 2023, a survey conducted in Nigeria found that 27 percent of the people reported that lump growths were a cancer symptom. At the same time, eight percent of people mentioned tummy or back pain and unexplainable weight loss as potential symptoms. Other signs cited include swelling of the affected area, feeling tired and unwell (seven percent each), itchy/yellow skin (five percent), and nose bleeding, amongst others. Furthermore, the majority of people in the country did not know the causes of cancer.
