In 2023, the average Australian Sustainable Finance Progress Tracker score increased to 2.6, up from 2.0 in the previous year. The score is calculated and tracked by the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI), whose mission is to align the Australian financial system with a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive Australia.

Research conducted to inform the report consists of four components: ASFI member and industry partner surveys, interviews with key market participants, open call and targeted collection of case studies, and desktop research and analysis.

Progress against each recommendation was qualitatively assigned a score on a scale of one to five. One being the least amount of observable progress and five being the most. Definitions of the scale are detailed as follows:
1 - negligible progress
2 - modest progress
3 - moderate progress
4 - advanced progress
5 - recommendation implemented.
