According to surveys conducted during the fiscal year 2022 in Japan, an estimated 64.2 percent of the population living in metropolitan areas visited restaurants. The figure increased compared to the past two years, but was still significantly below pre-COVID-19 pandemic values.

*Respondents were residents of one of the following metropolitan areas:

Capital area, including parts of Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, and Ibaraki Prefecture; within a 90-minute train ride to the central area.

Kansai area: Osaka, and parts of Hyogo Prefecture, Kyoto Prefecture, Nara Prefecture, and Shiga Prefecture; within an 80-minute train ride to the central area.

Tokai area: parts of Aichi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, and Mie Prefecture; within a 60-minute train ride to the central area.
