Distribution of private sector workforce in the GCC 2017-2022, by nationality
In 2022, around 86 percent of foreign workers in the Gulf Cooperation Council worked in the private sector, compared to roughly 14 percent of local citizens. Along with 2021, this was the highest level of local GCC citizens working in the private sector during the period between 2017 and 2022. 2017 and 2019, both had the same proportion of foreign and local workers in the private sector at roughly 88 and 12 percent, respectively.
