By the financial year 2022, 13.6 percent of the income group of up to 500 thousand Indian rupees left the lower strata and migrated upwards. There was over eight percent growth in the income tax filing population in the group of 500 thousand to one million income. This suggests a transition of the lower-middle class to higher income levels over the past ten years.
