Global refining capacity 2022-2030, by scenario and region
The refining capacity in the Atlantic Basin stood at nearly 54.2 million barrels per day, while the region East of Suez reported 48.5 million barrels per day in capacity. Refining capacity in the Atlantic Basin is forecast to drop slightly in 2030 under a STEP scenario. Meanwhile, that of the East of Suez region would increase by 7.2 percent. However, the capacity in both regions would drop to a combined 87.5 million barrels per day under a net-zero emissions scenario. The STEP or stated policies scenario is based on current policies both already in place and under development, while the NZE or net-zero emissions scenario assumes that the global energy sector will achieve net zero CO₂ emissions by 2050.
