Attitudes toward air quality standards in the European Union 2022, by country
Almost 70 percent of Europeans felt that EU air quality standards were not adequate and should be strengthened, according to a 2022 survey. More than 50 percent of respondents in all but five EU Member States felt that air quality standards should be strengthened. The country with the highest share of respondents that believed there should be stricter air quality standards was Greece, at 88 percent. Every year, there are more than 10,000 premature deaths due to air pollution in Greece.
