U.S. investments in renewable energy 2004-2017 Investment into renewable energy technologies has grown significantly in the United States over the last decades. In 2017, investments reached 40.5 billion U.S. dollars, in comparison to 11.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2005. The United States’ renewable market has benefitted from green stimulus programs and uncertainties in renewable tax credits. The United States has also been a major market in terms of venture capital and private equity funding for green technology companies. The United States has also focused heavily on small-scale solar as well as utility-scale renewable technologies. Investments in clean energy totaled 279.8 billion U.S. dollars worldwide in 2017.
Global renewable investments

China and the United States are two of the largest investors in clean energy worldwide. Developing countries have also experienced a spike in investments in the last years in as much as they surpassed the developed world in 2015. Solar and wind technologies are the most heavily invested in worldwide. Due to the decrease in the cost of wind and solar technologies, it has been possible to purchase equipment for lower prices. Nevertheless, uncertainty in the market approaches as renewable projects will no longer receive government support and will have to reply on the private sector and power prices.
