Deloitte was the leading CPA firm in the United States as of March 2018 with a revenue of over 18.5 billion U.S. dollars in the fiscal year ending June, 2017. Worldwide, the company generated a revenue of around 38.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 – the largest source of this revenue being the Americas at 20.4 billion U.S. dollars. The company also employed well over 263,000 people worldwide.
During the first three months of 2017, approximately 29.13 million U.S. residents had used an accountancy service within the last 12 months. The number of accountants and auditors has remained at around 1.2 million in recent years. In 2017, there was 1.24 million people employed in these professions, this was forecasted to increase to 1.4 million by 2022. Although the sector is expected to flourish in terms of numbers, there is a considerable gender pay gap within the accounting and auditing industry. In 2016, men earned around 1,441 U.S. dollars per week where as women earned roughly 1,018 U.S. dollars per week for doing the same job.
