UK households holiday accommodation expenditure by age 2021

According to a survey in the United Kingdom, respondents with a household reference person aged between 30 to 49 spent an average of 4.70 British pounds on holiday accommodation within the UK, which was the highest among the age groups. In comparison, respondents with a household reference person aged 75 and older had the least average weekly spending on domestic holiday accommodations. Overall, households spent approximately 3.70 British pounds a week on holiday accommodation in the UK in that period.

The household reference person was defined in the source as one who
Owns the household accommodation, or
Is legally responsible for the rent of the accommodation, or
Has the household accommodation as an emolument or perquisite, or
Has the household accommodation by virtue of some relationship to the owner who is not a member of the household.
If there are joint householders, the household reference person is the one with the higher income. If the income is the same, then the eldest householder is taken.

The source added the following information: "Data collected in March 2020 may have covered changes to spending habits around the start of the first UK lockdown on 23 March, for example panic buying beforehand and reduced spending during lockdown when people were advised to stay at home and many businesses were closed. However, because of reduced data collection in the latter half of March, data may not accurately reflect the impact of lockdown on spending and the annual estimates reported in this release will not be significantly impacted."
