Reasons for lending small amounts (IOUs) in the UK 2014, by age and gender This statistic presents the three main reasons for lending money in small amounts to others (IOUs or "I owe you"s) in the United Kingdom in 2014, listed by different age and gender cohorts. Women aged 18 to 24 and 35 to 34 were most likely to lend because "it made them feel like they helped people" - 76 percent of the younger group and 75 percent of the older group.
