* Figures are based on current prices (aka nominal, cash or value, meaning the data are expressed in terms of the prices of the time period being estimated) and not adjusted for inflation. Caution is therefore advised when comparing with previous years.
** Due to changes in the methodology as part of the TSA 2016, the source advises caution when comparing 2015-2016 figures with previous data.
*** Nowcast estimate. The source adds the following information: "Nowcasted estimates are estimates that are not based on a full UK-TSA and are subject to revision when a UK-TSA 2017 is produced."
Date prior to 2015 is taken from earlier UK-TSA reports published by the source.
The source defines tourism direct GVA as follows: "Tourism direct gross value added (TDGVA) indicates the component of output from the set of UK tourism industries that is driven directly by tourism spend. It is calculated by reconciling the supply (the output of tourism industries) with the demand (tourist expenditure) side of tourism, so that the proportion of the output of tourism industries that is accounted for by tourism expenditure can be estimated."
