Annual failure rates - servers
The statistic shows the average annual failure rates of servers around the world. The research found that failure rates begin increasing significantly as servers age. Where a four year-old server has an 11 percent annual failure frequency, the rate of failure in a server's first year sits at 5 percent. Understanding server failure rates is useful as it allows for better risk management and planning for server maintenance and management costs over time. Older systems experience multiple issues. These include more frequent breakdowns, operating system system software and application software passing its ideal life experience, and an increased need for patching while simultaneously losing vendor support. Migrating to newer software also raises further compatibility problems.
