This statistic displays the estimated distribution of hospitalizations due to eating disorders in the United States between 1999 and 2009, by payer type. On average in 2007-2008, Medicare payers accounted for 20 percent of hospitalizations due to eating disorders. These conditions contribute to the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder, most notably among anorexia nervosa patients.
