Registrations of new passenger cars in France 2020
In the space of around three decades, the annual number of new passenger car registrations fluctuated a lot. In fact, figures recorded four different peaks between 1990 and 2020. With 2.3 million cars newly registered, 1990 was the year which recorded the highest score. Since that year, this score has never been reached again or exceeded. In 2020, the number of registrations has fallen sharply below 1.7 million new cars sold. That is a drop of nearly 500,000 vehicles compared to 2019.
