Gross margin based ranking of top pharmaceutical companies 2017 The top pharmaceutical company, based on gross margin, in 2017 was Celgene, followed by Regeneron. Celgene’s grows margin in 2017 was 93.8 percent, while Regeneron’s gross margin as that time was about 90.8 percent. Gross margin can be defined as the revenue of a company less the cost of goods sold, divided by revenue. Gross margin is a representation of profit. The higher the gross margin, the more power a company has to raise prices.
