The manufacturing of wearing apparel in the United Kingdom produced 305,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2020. This was a slight reduction of about one percent compared to the previous year, and a reduction of 58 percent compared with 1990 levels.
In addition to emissions, there are other environmental concerns within the fashion industry, such as waste generation, water pollution, and water consumption. A recent survey found that 18 percent of UK respondents said they have tried not to purchase clothing items due to concerns about their environmental impact.
