by Statista Research Department, last edited Nov 27, 2015
Online car services usage situation 2015 This statistic shows the usage situation of online car services in China in 2015. Car pooling had a market share of 35.9 percent that year.
Car services in China - additional information Taxi hailing still dominates usage of online car services in China with close to an 85 percent share, but services are expanding. Alternatives such as special car reserving, carpool match making, designated driving services and more traditional car rental opportunities are innovating taxi hailing. Special car reserving is a service which offers preferred comfortable and/or luxury cars to customers, designated driving services sends a driver to drive car owners where they need to go when they may have had too much to drink or are unable to drive themselves and car pooling/sharing services will soon match up drivers and passengers based on shared interests. This service is sure to make getting from A to B more interesting. China's own online car service startup Didi Kuaidi has become one of the most valuable startups in the world, challenging American car-hailing app, Uber as it attempts to expand its market share in China. Didi Kuaidi offers a broader array of services than Uber. These startups are providing alternatives to car ownership around the world. In China, the number of public transport vehicles per inhabitant has significantly increased since 1995. Yet despite these innovations, private car ownership in China is still increasing, as is traffic congestion.
