In Ontario, there were over 116.5 thousand continuing care assessed residents, which included nearly 21.6 thousand hospital-based care assessed residents and some 95 thousand residential care assessed residents.

Residents assessed with the RAI-MDS 2.0 or interRAI LTCF assessment instrument in 2022-2023. Residents should be assessed within 14 days of admission or within 4 days of admission (interRAI LTCF) to a facility, then every quarter during their stay or if they have a significant change in status. There are several reasons why residents in a facility in 2022-2023 may not have assessment records in CCRS: their stay in the facility was less than 14 days; they were admitted close to the end of the fiscal year and their initial assessment was not due until the first 14 days of 2022–2023; they were discharged close to the beginning of the fiscal year; or the facility did not successfully submit the record to CIHI.
