Participation in gambling in the Great Britain 2020, by age

According to the survey, 48.4 percent of respondents aged 45 to 54 years old participated in gambling in 2020, making it the age bracket with the highest share of gambling participants in that year. Overall, gambling participation was highest between the age of 35 to 64 years old.

The Gambling Commission
The Gambling Commission was established under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate gambling in Great Britain through the operationalization of their primary objectives: to ensure that gambling is conducted fairly and openly, whilst reducing gambling related crime and protecting vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling; to advise the government on the impact of gambling and its regulation; and to ensure that National Lottery good causes are maximized.

Problem gambling
Gambling is an important cultural component within British society however it is becoming an increasingly controversial subject of public health and policy interest. To assist the development of effective policy that minimizes gambling-related harm the Gambling Commission collect data on gambling both in terms of information about the consumer and about the method and frequency with which they gamble and publish this information in the annual Gambling participation and problem gambling report. The report includes data on participation in gambling activities in the past four weeks, online gambling behavior, awareness of gambling management tools and perceptions and attitudes towards gambling and data on the prevalence of problem, moderate-risk and low-risk gambling within Great Britain.
