Denmark: National Church membership 2023

The share of the population in Denmark that is a member of the National Church has declined over the past 10 years. In 2023, 4.28 million Danes were registered as members in the Danish National Church, meaning that 72 percent of the country's total population of 5.9 million people were members of the Church. Close to 1.7 million people were not members of the Danish National Church that year. Every person who is baptized automatically becomes a member of the National Church, which in most cases happens through infant baptism. Since the Danish Reformation, the Danish National Church has been Evangelical Lutheran.
