According to the source hotel includes: hotels, motels, apartments with hotel services, youth accommodations and bed & breakfasts with at least five berths. The term guests includes:
- Visitors who stay for one or more nights in an overnight accommodation.
- Visitors who stay for multiple times per month in the same or different accommodations.

It is not:
- Visitors who stay for more than two months at a time in an overnight accommodation.
- Asylum seekers and seasonal employees are not taken into account.

* The figures for The Hague and Rotterdam include the coastal areas of Scheveningen, Kijkduin (The Hague) and Hoek van Holland (Rotterdam). Figures for 2018 are provisional.
