Number of newly registered hydrogen passenger cars in the Netherlands 2013-2018

In 2018, the number of newly registered hydrogen passenger cars in the Netherlands amounted to a total of 13, which is a slight increase compared to the previous year. The highest volume was reached in 2015, when there were 19 hydrogen cars registered. Hydrogen vehicles uses the combination of hydrogen with oxygen in a fuel cell to let electric motors run. Electric passenger cars use batteries to convert fuel to electricity, and by 2017 there were nearly 8,000 newly electric passenger car registrations in the Netherlands.

Tesla Model S most registered electric car

Up until August 2019, there were roughly 96,200 Extended Range Electric Vehicles (E-REV) and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) registered in the Netherlands, whereas there were just over 67,000 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) registrations. Observing the leading fully electric passenger cars, the Tesla Model S was the most registered electric passenger car with 12,644 registrations as of June in 2019. Nissan Leaf had approximately 6,900 registrations, whereas the Tesla Model 3 had just over 6,000 cars that were registered in the Netherlands.

Import of passenger cars categorized by fuel

As of 2018, most of the imported passenger cars into the Netherlands were petrol-fueled. Approximately 155,500 petrol cars were imported, whereas the least imported vehicles are hydrogen-fueled vehicles with only three imports in the same year.
