Spain: sun, tapas, culture and tourism
Boasting nearly 83 million international visitors in 2018, Spain was the second most visited country in the world according to a ranking published by the World Tourism Organization. The Mediterranean country is also one of Europe’s favorite holiday destinations – the United Kingdom, Germany and France appeared in the first positions in this statistic that lists the largest number of international visitors to Spain by country of residence, as confirms the data collected from the Spanish Statistics Institute (INE).
Tourism is crucial for the Spanish economic system
Tourism has become one of the main drivers of growth for the Spanish economy: the sector’s contribution to the GDP reached approximately 178 billion euros in 2019. Moreover, the industry plays a key role to boost the Spanish employment market, which has been experiencing a significant improvement since the 2007 financial crisis jeopardized and destroyed many jobs across the country.
