CO2 emissions at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport 2015-2019

As of 2019, a total of 120,000 tons of CO2 emissions was measured at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is an increase compared to the previous year. The Majority of the CO2 emissions came from electricity with roughly 100,000 tons, whereas natural gas and fuels accounted for 19,037 tons of emissions. Observing the number of aircraft movements at Schiphol, the volume amounted to nearly 500,000. Compared to 2018, it decreased with 2,000 movements. Due to a stakeholder agreement from 2008, Schiphol is not allowed to further expand and is limited to 500,000 aircraft movements per year until 2020.

Passenger volumes at Schiphol

From the first quarter of 2018 and 2019, passengers utilized Amsterdam Airport the most in the period between July to September in 2018. Nearly 20 million passengers flew to and from Schiphol in the third quarter of 2018, an increase of 1.21 million passengers compared to the previous quarter. Looking at the passenger volumes by airline at the airport in Amsterdam, Dutch airways KLM carried roughly 35.1 million passengers in 2019, whereas easyJet and Transavia had approximately six and 5.3 million passengers.

Income of Schiphol Group

Amsterdam Airport is part of Schiphol Group, which owns airports like Rotterdam The Hague and Lelystad Airport as well. In 2019, the company generated an income of approximately 1.74 billion euros in total, of which most came from airport charges with an income of 972 million euros.
