The health expenditure as a share of gross domestic product in Bangladesh increased by 0.1 percentage points (+4.41 percent) in 2021. In total, the share amounted to 2.36 percent in 2021. Estimates of current health expenditures include healthcare goods and services consumed each year. This indicator does not include capital health expenditures such as buildings, machinery, IT, and stocks of vaccines for emergency or outbreaks. Level of current health expenditure is expressed as a percentage of GDP.
Total health expenditure is the sum of public and private health expenditure. It covers the provision of health services (preventive and curative), family planning activities, nutrition activities, and emergency aid designated for health but does not include provision of water and sanitation.
