Litter items found on beaches in Europe 2016
This statistic shows the share of top marine litter items found on beaches across Europe in 2016. Plastic and polystyrene pieces of various sizes had a combined share of around 25 percent of all marine litter items found on beaches. This illustrates the harm plastic products are having on marine life across the world.
In 2017, cigarette butts made up 53 percent of single-use plastics litter in the Baltic Sea area.
